As for all Alsatian society at the time, the period from 1939 to 1945 was a dark time for the Humanist Library, marked by threats to the Selestadian written heritage. This heritage institution had to face up to an ideological context in which Nazis took actions to indoctrinate minds.
This exhibition delves into the issues surrounding the preservation of the Humanist Library's heritage from 1938 to the Liberation. It also shows how Selestadians' reading and the written heritage inherited from the Renaissance were used to celebrate the literary glories of the eternal Germany promoted by Nazism.
